Broker named 'counselor of the year'
A global real estate organization has given top honors to a local real estate broker.
The Society of Exchange Counselors, based in California, recently recognized Gary Vandenberg with its Counselor of the Year award. The annual award has been given out for the last 50 years to a real estate counselor who represents the motto of “service, experience and counsel.”
Vandenberg is an associate broker at Real Estate Solutions 1031 Inc. in Grand Rapids where he assists investment clients with their commercial sales and acquisition needs and in finding suitable 1031 replacement properties nationwide. He has been a real estate broker since 1975, has been an SEC member since 2001 and also served as SEC president in 2013.
Vandenberg is now teaching two courses nationally for SEC: “Exchange Magic,” written by himself; and “Broker Estate Building,” a 50-year-old course, updated and taught with his co-instructor, John Brennan of Dallas, Texas.
The Society for Exchange Counselors was founded in 1961. Membership is worldwide and includes commercial and investment real estate brokers, counselors, developers, asset managers, financiers, investors, exchangers, consultants and educators. It is based in La Jolla, California.
