Faith-based nonprofit appoints CEO
A local faith-based nonprofit has named its new chief executive officer.
Chris Slater was promoted to role at Catholic Charities West Michigan, effective today.
Slater has been serving as the organization’s CFO since 2015 and interim CEO since October.
“I joined Catholic Charities West Michigan to be part of an agency that provides direct service to those most in need,” Slater said. “After three years, it is clear I made the right decision. I am blessed to have the opportunity to continue leading our incredible staff that serves the most vulnerable throughout the Diocese of Grand Rapids and beyond.”
He was appointed by Most Reverend David J. Walkowiak, bishop of the Diocese of Grand Rapids.
“With Chris serving as interim CEO, Catholic Charities West Michigan has been operating well and is heading in an overall positive direction,” Walkowiak said. “Catholic Charities West Michigan is a vital organization, which allows the Catholic Church to serve people and families in need through many areas of education and programming.”
Previously, Slater served as the VP of finance for Heart of West Michigan United Way.
He has served on various community boards, including as the current treasurer for Health Net West Michigan.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Michigan University.
