Brewery employee assaulted on smoke break
The Grand Rapids Police Department is investigating an assault at a local brewery.
The GRPD received a 911 call shortly after midnight today that a Mitten Brewing Co. employee was assaulted outside of the establishment at 527 Leonard St NW.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, told officers he was standing alone outside smoking when he was engaged in brief conversation with another subject. The employee turned to go back inside when he was struck in the back of the head with a hard object, causing him to fall to the ground, further injuring his head.
The victim was able to go into Mitten Brewing to get help. Officers reported he is in stable condition.
The suspect is described as a white male, 26-30 years of age, heavy set, with dark hair and last seen wearing a dark shirt.
As of press time, detectives on the case do not have any indication that anything occurred to prompt the attack or that this is linked to any other cases.
The Mitten Brewing Co. reacted to the incident in a Facebook post today.
A GoFundMe page for the employee has been created "to help him until he gets back to work."
"He is an awesome dude we care deeply about," the page says.
