The West Michigan Whitecaps' front office will look a little different later this year.

The baseball team will be changing its leadership and creating new positions as part of a succession plan.

Lew Chamberlin is the current managing partner and CEO of the Whitecaps, but later this year, he will enter the newly created role of chairman.

The CFO, Denny Baxter, will also take on the newly created role of founder.

Joe Chamberlin is the current VP of finance and administration. As the organization begins its transition, he will be named the CEO and oversee the team’s strategic direction.

Steve McCarthy, who has been serving as the VP of sales for 13 years, will become the president and oversee the organization’s day-to-day business activities. The change will allow President Scott Lane to retire after 31 years in the sports industry.

After leading the organization’s operational functions, including acting as the primary liaison with Minor League Baseball and the Detroit Tigers, Jim Jarecki will add another title to his name. Jarecki will be named VP and General Manager.

"What Lew, Denny, Scott and the entire organization has done over the years is simply incredible,” Joe Chamberlin said. “They took a dream and made it a very successful reality.

“We are extremely lucky that as we begin to think about what the next 25 years looks like, they will be a huge part of that. As a result of this succession planning process, we have the time and continuity to ensure that Whitecaps baseball at Fifth Third Ballpark remains a West Michigan tradition and only gets better with age."
