Bank hires regional president
A bank with a large West Michigan presence has named its new regional president.
Midland-based Chemical Financial Corporation, the holding company for Chemical Bank, said today it hired Krista Flynn as its leader for West Michigan, effective today.
As regional president, she will oversee 500 employees and 29 banking centers in greater Grand Rapids, Holland, Grand Haven and Muskegon.
Flynn will be responsible for aligning a “cross-functional leadership team” to “drive growth and ensure consistent service delivery” throughout the region.
She will also work with Chemical Bank’s West Michigan advisory board, comprised of community and civic leaders, to ensure the bank stays true to its mission as a community institution.
Flynn is replacing Joel Rahn, who left in April to serve as SVP of commercial banking at Independent Bank.
“I’m excited to welcome Krista to the Chemical Bank team,” said Dan Terpsma, director of commercial lending and regional banking, Chemical Bank.
“Her proven track record of success in various facets of the banking industry will no doubt be invaluable to Chemical Bank. I look forward to her leadership and keen business acumen as Chemical Bank continues its growth in West Michigan.”
Flynn said she's excited to participate in the “growth story” of Chemical Bank.
“It’s a chance to have an influence on the strategy and direction of the bank, and I’ll have a bigger opportunity to be involved in the community,” Flynn said.
“We’re not a small bank anymore. At $20 billion, we’re a regional competitor, and we are investing in talent and technology. We can bring next-level banking and still maintain that local decision making and those local contacts.”
Flynn has 25 years of experience in the financial industry.
Most recently, she was SVP and commercial banking market manager at PNC in West Michigan.
She previously held various positions at JPMorgan Chase and its predecessor banks, including senior middle market banker.
She is a board member of KConnect and co-chair of its pre-natal to third grade work group.
She also volunteers at Kids’ Food Basket, the Association for Corporate Growth Western Michigan, Forest Hills Public Schools’ Spanish immersion program, Egypt Valley Country Club committees and Heart of West Michigan United Way.
She holds a B.B.A. in finance from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and an M.S. in finance from Walsh College in Troy.
Chemical Bank is a subsidiary of Chemical Financial Corporation (Nasdaq: CFHC).
It has 212 banking offices in Michigan, northeast Ohio and northern Indiana.
As of March 31, 2018, the corporation had total assets of $19.8 billion.
