Brews in the Beer City Pro-Am will soon be featured at breweries across West Michigan.

The second-annual event by the Beer City Brewers Guild’s will bring together 25 of the region’s best homebrewers with members of the brewing scene to collaborate and compete with new recipes.

“It’s a good chance to connect the homebrewing community and the craft brewing community, because there’s a lot of commonality there, “said Nick Rodammer, co-founder of the event and chair of the guild’s Pro-Am Committee.

Qualifying homebrewers were selected from the winners of several local homebrewing competitions. The selected entries will be tapped at breweries from July 30 to Aug. 3.

Competing brews will also appear in two “tap takeover” events. Horrocks Market Tavern in Kentwood, at 4458 Breton Rd. SE, will have five Pro-Am entries on tap on Aug. 3 from 5-8 p.m.

Logan’s Alley in Grand Rapids, at 916 Michigan St. NE, will have 18 entries on tap from Aug. 10 at 7 a.m. to Aug. 13 at 2 a.m., as well as last year’s winning entry, Monroe Weiss, which was a collaboration between City Built Brewing Company and homebrewer Paul Arends.

A panel of local judges will judge each entry based on aroma, appearance, flavor and feel.

The winner will be announced on Aug. 11 at the guild’s annual summer picnic at Fallasburg Park in Lowell, at 1124 Fallasburg Rd.
