The Grand Rapids Pops will be performing a “symphonic mashup” this week.

Grand Rapids Pops’ D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops will feature a performance of “Beethoven v. Coldplay” this Thursday and Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Cannonsburg Ski Area, at 6800 Cannonsburg Rd. NE.

The pops are part of the Grand Rapids Symphony.

The pops will debut their rendition of Beethoven’s “Eroica Symphony No. 3” against lyrics of Coldplay’s “Paradise," "42” and “Every Teardrop is a Waterfall” under the direction of composer and conductor Steve Hackman.

“All music comes from the same 12 notes,” Hackman told Quartz Media last year. “But the idea of compartmentalizing music and categorizing music and placing it in these bins that are firmly separated and don’t cross over — it’s just silliness to me.“

Three guest singers will also be performing on stage: Malia Civetz, Bill Prokopow and Ben Gully.

Cannonsburg Ski Area gates will open at 5:45 p.m. for picnicking and pre-concert entertainment, including face paining, crafts and a musical instrument "petting zoo."

Concert-goers can pack their own picnic baskets and coolers, and there will be food for sale from a grill and concession stands. Alcoholic beverages are allowed.

Parking is free. VIP parking is available for a fee.

Tickets can be purchased online.
