A local sports-focused nonprofit is hosting its annual awards event next week.

The City of Champions Youth Sports & Academic Awards by Grand City Sports will be held on Aug. 4 at Wealthy Theatre in Grand Rapids, starting at 6 p.m.

Ottawa Hills basketball “legend” Lacy Jones will be the event’s "primary host."

The fundraising event will celebrate the accomplishments of youth, high school and college student-athletes.

It will honor the 2018 Hall of Fame Class, 2018 Pioneer of the Year and community leaders.

The event will also pay special tribute to Grand City Sports’ 10-year anniversary.

The mission of Grand Rapids-based Grand City Sports is to provide programs and community events through education and sports to support at-risk youth in the community.

Doors will be open at 5 p.m.

Tickets are $10 and available online.
