Dental association appoints Elizabeth Bakeman as president-elect
Elizabeth Bakeman, the owner of Betsy Bakeman, DDS in Grand Rapids, has been named president-elect of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, an organization responsible for accrediting cosmetic dentists.
Bakeman was elected in April and will become president in April 2019, a role that lasts one year.
As president-elect, her duties are to participate in strategic planning and create direction for the AACD. She also chairs the budget and finance committee.
As president, she will continue strategic planning and creating direction, as well as have several committee responsibilities and weekly phone calls with the AACD executive director and public relations.
At Bakeman’s practice, she performs general dentistry with a focus on complex cosmetic and restorative dentistry. Bakeman started the practice 15 years ago, and it staffs eight people.
Bakeman also teaches as an adjunct faculty member at the Kois Center, a dental school in Seattle.
She is a member of the American Academy of Restorative Dentistry, American Academy of Esthetic Dentistry and an accredited fellow of AACD.
She also serves as an accreditation examiner and a fellowship examiner for AACD. She was the recipient of the AACD Award for Excellence in Cosmetic Dentistry Education in 2013.
Bakeman has served as chair of accreditation for AACD and chair of the American Board of Cosmetic Dentistry. She has also served as section editor for Compendium and the Journal of Cosmetic Dentistry and serves on several editorial boards.
She publishes and lectures on the topics of comprehensive dentistry and periodontal plastic surgery in the esthetic zone.
She holds a D.D.S. from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.
