Orion Construction 'topping off' 15-story Warner Building downtown
Orion Construction is hosting a “topping-off” ceremony next week for the 15-story Warner Building in downtown Grand Rapids.
The ceremony, at 150 Ottawa Ave. NW, will begin at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9 and include placement of a Christmas tree, American flag and signing of the last structural beam by the Orion team and city staff before it’s hoisted into place.
The topping-off ceremony signifies the last structural steel beam being placed. Some miscellaneous steel work, including minor interior and staircase work, will go on through the following week.
The $55-million Warner Building will encompass 291,549 square feet and include a seven-story parking deck.
Construction is expected to wrap up next spring.
The tower will be occupied by a couple key tenants, the Grand Rapids-based law firm Warner Norcross + Judd and Detroit-based Chemical Bank. Grand Rapids-based Orion also said an unnamed restaurant will occupy space on the ground floor.
The Business Journal previously covered the project’s groundbreaking, which included the adjacent 12-story Hyatt Place hotel, in June 2017.
The architect on the project is Ghafari’s Concept Design, and financing is through Chemical Bank.
