Ben Folds performing with Grand Rapids Pops
The Grand Rapids Pops will welcome Ben Folds tomorrow night for the final concert of the 2018 D&W Fresh Market Picnic Pops series.
The concert at the Cannonsburg Ski Area begins at 7:30 p.m.
The pops are part of the Grand Rapids Symphony.
“Ben is an astounding musician and a brilliant singer-songwriter," said Bob Bernhardt, principal conductor, Grand Rapids Pops. "I love his music, and I love working with him. I love his audiences, and I love the way he relates to his fans. I’m thrilled he’s coming back to Grand Rapids.”
He previously joined the Grand Rapids Symphony at DeVos Performance Hall in October 2014.
Folds is the artistic advisor to the National Symphony Orchestra at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C.
He was the front man and pianist of the rock-alternative band Ben Folds Five, leading them to a series of platinum recordings, and he has produced songs such as “The Luckiest,” “You Don’t Know Me” and “Brick.”
He has also served as a judge on NBC’s “The Sing-Off” for four seasons, performed with numerous orchestras across the country and created a popular YouTube video, “Ode to Merton.”
Guest conductor Jacomo Bairos will lead the Grand Rapids Pops in the concert.
Cannonsburg Ski Area will open at 5:45 p.m. for picnicking and pre-concert entertainment, such as free kid-friendly activities and a musical instrument petting zoo.
Concert-goers can bring their own picnic baskets, cooler and purchase grilled food.
