A local mall is making room for a new steakhouse and bar and two new retailers as it redevelops its property.

The owner of Woodland Mall in Kentwood, Philadelphia-based PREIT, announced yesterday that several tenants are coming to the mall, at 3195 28th St. SE.

The women’s fashion retailer Altar’d State will open a 5,500-square-foot store this October.

Two other tenants are scheduled to open in October of 2019.

Black Rock Bar & Grill will occupy a 9,000-square-foot space. The restaurant chain allows guests to sear their meat or seafood on "volcanic granite" at their tables. The company has several locations in Michigan, including Portage, as well as Florida and Illinois.

Urban Outfitters will also move in with an 8,000-square-foot store. The retailer sells women’s and men’s fashion, as well as home décor, lifestyle and beauty products. The location will be the chain’s first in West Michigan, according to its website.

“We’re committed to making strategic investments that enhance our properties and solidify their presence as premier retail, dining and entertainment destinations,” said Joseph Coradino, CEO, PREIT. “The redevelopment of Woodland Mall exemplifies the successful results of this strategy.”

Several retailers, including Apple, LUSH, Hollister and Victoria’s Secret, are also renovating spaces for their stores at Woodland Mall

The Business Journal previously reported on the plan by Von Maur, a department store chain, to open its first West Michigan store at Woodland Mall. Von Maur will open a 90,000-square-foot store in October 2019.

The Business Journal also reported on plans by REI Co-op, an outdoor retailer, to open a 20,000-square-foot store just south of Woodland Mall next May.
