A nonprofit focused on helping female entrepreneurs is hosting a workshop on crowdfunding this week.

Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women (GROW) will host Crowdfunding: Raising Capital for Your Business this Thursday from 2-5 p.m.

The session will be held at GROW’s office in Grand Rapids, at 25 Sheldon Blvd. SE, suite 210.

Class facilitators will include Thell Woods, founder of Crowdfunding Services, and Attah Obande, director of dream fulfillment at SpringGR.

GROW describes crowdfunding as “a way of raising capital by asking a large number of individuals each for a small amount of money to finance a new business venture.”

Well-known crowdfunding platforms include Kickstarter and GoFundMe.

“Crowdfunding has grown in recognition in providing easy access to vast networks of people through the internet and connecting entrepreneurs and potential investors,” according to GROW.

The class will help participants learn about crowdfunding methods and platforms, hear from businesses that have run successful crowdfunding campaigns, learn if crowdfunding is right for them and leave with resources to help them begin.

Tickets are $25 and available online until Aug. 22.

Sheldon Boulevard is currently closed for construction. Free parking is available in the lot at the corner of Weston Street and South Division Avenue.
