A new coffee and pastry concept is setting up shop downtown.

Harris Coffee Bar & Pastries is coming to the historic Harris Building in Grand Rapids, at 111 Division Ave. S.

Grand Rapids-based Studio D2D, a wedding and event planning firm, says this week on its blog that the shop is its “newest adventure.”

Construction on the space began this month, and the shop is expected to open on Sept. 13.

The menu at Harris Coffee & Pastries will feature baked goods, like creme brulee eclairs and strawberry cheesecake macarons, as well as various cake and cupcake flavors.

Coffee will be sourced from Uncommon Coffee Roasters in Saugatuck.

“Our event clients will have a new amazing space to meet for consultations and can now also include wedding cakes to the list of items that Studio D2D is able to coordinate and help take care of,” Studio D2D says.

Studio D2D is owned by the husband-and-wife team of Andrea DeWard and Dan DeWard.

The staff

Sarah Cardoza has been brought on board as operations manager of the shop, and she will also lend her skills as a pastry chef and barista.

Cardoza previously worked as a barista and as a chef-instructor at Sur La Table in Grand Rapids.

Kate Olsen will serve as the shop's assistant manager.

Olsen has experience as a barista and worked as a baker at Wealthy Street Bakery.

The building

The Harris Building was built in 1892 on the site of the former Grand Rapids Union Brewery, according to Studio D2D.

The second floor features a large domed ballroom suitable for weddings and other large gatherings, and the third floor has skylight-illuminated hallways. The building is also home to Queen’s Parlor Salon.
