Nonprofit hires director of lending programs

A local nonprofit focused on business opportunities for women has named its new director of lending programs.

Grand Rapids Opportunities for Women, or GROW, said last week it hired Jill May for the role.

GROW also said it hired Annie Trupke as an administrative assistant.

May will to oversee the nonprofit's loan portfolio and monitor "external loan environments," as well as assist clients with all aspects of loan application preparation and submission.

“Our organization is now fully staffed, which will allow us to better serve our clients and cover more of West Michigan with our lending programs and strong technical assistance to support our clients post-loan,” said Bonnie Nawara, CEO, GROW.

May is a Grand Rapids native and brings 20 years of experience in the nonprofit industry, mostly recently as the interim executive director of the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce.

She has worked for multiple nonprofits in Grand Rapids and Traverse City, including as a development director at The Right Place, the Urban Institute of Contemporary Art and American Cancer Society.

She holds a B.A. in journalism and communication from Olivet College and an M.P.A. from Grand Valley State University.

GROW

Grand Rapids-based GROW is a nonprofit focused on assisting women and men at various stages of business ownership.

More than half of GROW’s clients are low- to moderate-income individuals who want to start or build their businesses.

GROW offers training and business counseling in all facets of business, including finance, management, marketing, strategic planning, human resources and more.

It is one of 110 certified Women’s Business Centers in the nation and one of three in Michigan, in partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration.
