Health system re-assigns hospital leader
The president of a local hospital is leaving for the top role at two other hospitals in Michigan.
Bill Manns, president of Mercy Health Saint Mary's in Grand Rapids, will become the president of St. Joseph Mercy Ann Arbor and St. Joseph Mercy Livingston, according to the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System yesterday.
He will transition to his new role in October once interim leadership is established at Mercy Health St. Mary’s.
"We looked within our existing ranks for a new hospital president and interviewed several outstanding candidates,” said Rob Casalou, president and CEO, Mercy Health and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. “In the end, Bill's qualities as an accomplished, dynamic and collegial leader with an impressive track record for results make him an ideal choice to lead St. Joe's Ann Arbor and Livingston."
Manns became president of the 303-bed Saint Mary's in 2013.
During his tenure, he has overseen numerous hospital renovations: including the construction of a $50-million new surgical suite; the opening of the Mercy Health Rockford Medical complex; the opening of numerous ambulatory sites throughout West Michigan; and the current renovation of the maternity unit.
St. Joe's Ann Arbor is a 537-bed academic teaching hospital and tertiary care center in the midst of a $24-million Cancer Center renovation and expansion project. St. Joe's Livingston is a 136-bed community hospital that includes a new Breast Imaging Center in Brighton.
"I'm looking forward to bringing my experience leading strategy in West Michigan now to the Ann Arbor and Livingston markets," Manns said. "This kind of synergy is an example of how we are building a strong statewide system that is truly integrated with enhanced resources and clinical capabilities that we can more easily implement across the state."
Manns will succeed David Brooks, who left this April.
Alonzo Lewis has been serving as interim president and will continue at St. Joe Ann Arbor in his role as SVP of operations once Manns is in place.
