ArtPrize 10 colors Grand Rapids
Artists and visitors from across the world are descending on Grand Rapids for ArtPrize 10.
The international art competition will start this Wednesday and run through Oct. 7.
The 19-day event will feature over 1,260 entries by artists from 41 states and 40 countries.
The art entries will be displayed at over 165 venues across the city, including museums, churches, cafés and parks.
There will be $500,000 in total prize money awarded, which will be given to artists in four categories: 2-D, 3-D, installation and time-based.
The entries can be in "any medium."
People can vote for entries through the free ArtPrize mobile app or online. The public can cast their votes from Sept. 19 at 12 p.m. through Sept. 29 by 11:59 p.m.
The public, along with jurors, will choose the top 40 finalists.
From Sept. 30 at 2 p.m. to Oct. 4 at 11:59 p.m., the public can cast up to 40 votes — one vote for each finalist.
The entry with the most public votes will win $200,000, and a juried winner will also be awarded $200,000.
There will be a total of $100,000 in category awards. The artist with the most public votes in each category will receive $12,500, and each juried category winner will also receive $12,500.
The winners of the public vote and the juried vote will be named on Oct. 5.
Last year, ArtPrize had a $33-million economic impact on the city, as 522,737 visitors viewed art entries at 175 venues in the city.
