A construction association recently honored the best work in West Michigan over the past year.

The Associated Builders and Contractors Western Michigan Chapter, or ABC/WMC, announced last week the winners of the 32nd-annual Excellence in Construction Awards at 20 Monroe Live in downtown Grand Rapids.

The awards event celebrates and recognizes the region's most innovative and high-quality construction projects, safety efforts and craft professionals.

“Recognizing these individuals and companies who take such pride in continually providing excellent work in our communities is always rewarding, and we congratulate and thank all of the participants for their dedication,” said Norm Brady, president and CEO, ABC/WMC.

Pioneer Construction won the Safety Award of Excellence, General Contractor/Construction Manager, and Buist Electric won the Safety Award of Excellence, Trade Contractor.

The Safety Award of Excellence identifies companies that demonstrate continued commitment to job-site safety and strive to make those values an integral part of their day-to-day cultures.

The 2018 Craft Professional of the Year award, or CPOY, was presented to Joel Newton, detailer, foreman and journeyman electrician at Windemuller.

The CPOY award is given to an individual who raises the bar for professionals in their craft by exhibiting outstanding craftsmanship and leadership.
