A local women’s football team competing in a national league is running a pair of tryouts this month.

The nonprofit Grand Rapids Tidal Waves will host tryouts at Douglas Walker Park in Byron Center, 1195 84th St. SW, this Saturday and on Oct. 28 from 1-3:30 p.m.

Athletic women of various "body types, shapes and sizes" are encouraged to attend.

No prior football experience or equipment is necessary.

Comfortable clothes and cleats are recommended, though sneakers can be used.

There is no cost to attend the tryouts.

Pre-registration is recommended. Those interested can register by emailing tidalwavesfootball at gmail dot com

The Tidal Waves' inaugural season was last year.

They play in the Women’s Football Alliance, or WFA, and their season runs from April through June, followed by the playoffs.

The nonprofit WFA, founded in 2007, consists of 65 teams.
