River Bank Run signs new title sponsor
The River Bank Run has a new name and title sponsor.
River Bank Events and Media, the race’s owner and producer, said yesterday the annual race will be re-named the Amway River Bank Run.
It was formerly the Fifth Third River Bank Run.
“Fifth Third Bank has supported this race for many years and has taken a great idea and turned it into the largest 25k race in the country,” said Russ Hines, CEO, River Bank Events and Media. “They reached out to their community partners, and Amway is stepping up to make sure the race continues for years to come.”
Fifth Third Bank will remain the race’s corporate sponsor, and Spectrum Health will continue as the race’s official health care partner.
David Madiol from Amway will now serve as race director.
“The River Bank Run is one of West Michigan’s most anticipated events every year, attracting participants from around Michigan, the United States and globally,” said Michael Nelson, chief administrative officer, Amway. “This race tradition now becomes Amway’s largest local engagement and exemplifies our commitment to health and wellness in the community.”
Hines will continue to oversee the race, and Greg Meyer, who won the River Bank Run seven times, will handle “elite athlete” recruitment and oversee training.
Lauralee Mathieu, the race’s operations director since 2002, will continue with her responsibilities for all race-related operations.
Sarah Laurent, the race’s events director, will continue to be responsible for all auxiliary events and day-to-day administrative tasks.
The 42nd Amway River Bank Run will be on May 11 in downtown Grand Rapids.
It will feature a 5k run and 5k walk, 10k and 25k runs and 25k handcycle and wheelchair racing.
