Two of the country’s "top 50" philanthropists hail from West Michigan.

Forbes says this week it ranked “America’s Top 50 Givers” to show who donated the most money in 2017.

The DeVos family ranks No. 25, and Jon Stryker ranks No. 46.

The report says the DeVos family gave away $108 million last year. The late Richard DeVos co-founded Ada-based Amway.

Stryker is founder and board president of New York City-based Arcus Foundation and gave away $27 million last year, Forbes reports.

He is the grandson of Dr. Homer Stryker, the late founder of Kalamazoo-based Stryker (NYSE: SYK), a maker of medical devices and equipment.

Detroit natives Eli Broad and Edythe Broad are also featured in the No. 18 spot.

The couple grew up in Detroit and met attending public school. Eli Broad attended Michigan State University.

The couple gave away $160 million last year, Forbes reports.

Warren Buffett ranks No. 1. Forbes says he gave away $2.8 billion last year.

Forbes' slideshow of the "top 50" is online.

Boca Raton, Florida-based SHOOK Research determined the ranking by focusing on the funds that “make it into the hands of the recipients,” whether from foundations or personal giving, not including funds that cover overhead costs.
