Nonprofit producing Evening With the Stars
A nonprofit that funds research on cystic fibrosis is hosting a fundraiser in the area next week.
The Troy-based Michigan chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host its second-annual Evening With the Stars, featuring “celebrities” from the area.
The event takes place on Nov. 3 from 6:30-11 p.m. at Thousand Oaks Golf Club in Plainfield Township, at 4100 Thousand Oaks NE.
The event will include a live band, dinner, drinks and live and silent auctions.
Featured guests, including Nicole DiDonato of FOX 17 and Matt Kirkwood of WOOD TV 8, among others, will entertain the audience in a friendly competition to earn tips, which contribute to the night’s fundraising.
The guest speaker will be Emily Schaller, an adult living with cystic fibrosis and founder of the Detroit-based Rock CF Foundation.
Tickets to the event are $100.
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation
Founded in 1955, the Bethesda, Maryland-based nonprofit says it has helped discover the gene that causes cystic fibrosis, created a modern model for care and funded groundbreaking research.
Cystic fibrosis is a rare genetic disease that causes a thick buildup of mucus in the lungs, pancreas and other organs, leading to respiratory infection and early death.
The median survival age of people with cystic fibrosis is now about 40, the foundation says.
