A local retirement community’s foundation has named its new director of development.

The Grand Rapids-based Clark Foundation, the charitable giving branch of Clark Retirement Community, said this month it hired LouAnn Shawver for the role.

Under the direction of JoAnn Abraham, VP of development for the retirement community and executive director of the foundation, Shawver’s job is to make connections with donors and promote the foundation’s mission.

Shawver said she wants to be part of the solution to exhausting financial resources as the senior population continues to grow.

Most recently, she worked in business development at the Grand Rapids Township-based senior services nonprofit Porter Hills for over five years.

After taking some time off to care for her mother-in-law, Clark Foundation reached out to Shawver about the open position at the “most perfect” time, she said.

“Clark has got a great reputation, so it was an easy decision for me,” she said.

Previously, Shawver worked in Medicare and insurance sales for Priority Health, as business development director at Holland Home and as marketing and sales director at Lakeshore HMO.

Shawver is president of the Rotary Club of Ada-Cascade, volunteers for Bethany Christian Services and has spent the past 18 months helping a refugee family of 10 settle in the U.S.

She has also volunteered for several other organizations, such Junior Achievement of Grand Rapids and as a board member for Project Rehab, Forest Hills Northern High School Athletic Boosters and the Michigan West Coast Chamber of Commerce.

She holds a B.S. in education from Michigan State University
