A new hotel brand is moving into the West Michigan market.

The anchor of the retail Park Place development in Zeeland Township by Wyoming-based Granger Group will be Michigan’s first avid hotel, the latest “mid-scale” brand from Denham, England-based InterContinental Hotels Group, or IHG.

The new avid brand is meant for the “underserved” everyday traveler, offering the essentials but not the extra features some guests may prefer to go without.

The four-story, 92-room hotel will feature an indoor pool, "upgraded" bedding and high-speed internet.

The $7-million hotel will take up two acres of the nine-acre development.

Construction on the 44,000-square-foot hotel, at 8101 Westpark Way, will begin next spring and should be finished in spring 2020.

Bhogi Patel, president of Zeeland Hospitality, will be the owner and operator of the avid hotel.

The hotel plans to hire 15 employees, including managers and front desk, housekeeping and maintenance staff.

IHG has a portfolio of 15 hotel brands, acting as either the property franchisor, manager or owner.

More than 4,450 hotels are under franchise agreements, and more than 900 hotels operate under a management contract.
