Attorney appointed to two state bar leadership posts
A local attorney has been appointed to a pair of leadership roles for the State Bar of Michigan.
Peter Kulas-Dominguez of Warner Norcross + Judd’s Grand Rapids office was elected chair-elect of the State Bar of Michigan's Lesbian-Gay-Bisexual-Transgender-Questioning-Allies, or LGBTQA, Section.
He was also selected co-chair for the Court Rules Committee for the State Bar of Michigan's Family Law Section, alongside Jennifer Johnsen, a colleague at Warner’s Grand Rapids office.
He will serve a one-year term for both roles.
Kulas-Dominguez has been a member of the State Bar of Michigan for nine years.
As chair-elect of the LGBTQA section that has 172 members, he will review law, cases, regulations and other legal matters relating to the LGBTQA community in the state and promote the fair and just administration of those laws.
As the co-chair of the Court Rules Committee for the bar’s Family Law Section, he will review proposed changes to Michigan Court Rules that affect family law matters and recommend positions for the Family Law Section to take. The committee has 14 members.
Kulas-Dominguez practices family law litigation, such as divorce, LGBT family issues, domestic relations mediation, spousal support, child custody and support, abuse and neglect matters, complex business valuations, pre- and post-nuptial agreements and adoptions.
He’s also a member of the Grand Rapids Bar Association.
He lends his legal expertise to several organizations, including YWCA West Central Michigan and McKenzie’s Animal Shelter, by doing pro bono work.
He holds a B.A., cum laude, from Arizona State University and a J.D. from the Thomas M. Cooley Law School, which he received in 2009.
