Study grades West Michigan hospitals on safety
A national nonprofit focused on health safety has released its latest grades for a dozen West Michigan hospitals.
The fall 2018 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades said Michigan ranked No. 11 overall in the country for patient safety, an improvement from its rank of 24 in spring 2018.
Of the 81 hospitals graded in Michigan, 32 earned an A, the highest total ever for the state since the report card began in 2013.
Twenty-two hospitals earned a B, 26 earned a C and one earned a D.
Developed under the guidance of a national expert panel, the peer-reviewed methodology for the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grades used 28 measures — focusing on the care process, environment and outcomes — of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. hospitals.
