Barbecue chain entering market
A national barbecue chain is planning its first Michigan location on 28th Street.
Dublin, Ohio-based City Barbeque said yesterday it plans to open a location in Kentwood, at 3050 28th St. SE, in early 2019.
“We’re excited to bring our barbeque to Michigan for the first time and to start meeting our new friends and neighbors in Kentwood,” said Brian Hipsher, VP of marketing, City Barbeque. “We can’t wait to start serving and creating happiness in Grand Rapids early next year.”
The Kentwood barbecue joint will smoke all meats on site and serve a variety of items: barbecue; salads; homemade sides, including fries, green beans, mac and cheese and potato salad; and from-scratch desserts, such as peach cobbler, banana pudding and triple chocolate cake.
In addition to dine-in service, the chain also offers takeout, catering and online ordering.
The company will announce its grand-opening date in early 2019.
Founded in 1999 by Kansas native Rick Malir, City Barbeque operates 41 company-owned locations in 12 markets: Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Cincinnati and Akron, Ohio; Louisville and Lexington, Kentucky; Charlotte and Raleigh, North Carolina; Indianapolis; Atlanta; and Chicago.
