A local foundation has received a grant to benefit its diversity programs and events.

The Wege Foundation of Grand Rapids invested a $10,000 grant into the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation. The funds will support diversity and outreach programming at the Grand Rapids Public Library.

Some of the events and programs include Dia de los Muertos; Taste of Soul Sunday; One Book, One City for Kids; Social Justice Begins with Me book club; and the Summer Reading Challenge.

Programming at the GRPL relies on grants from the GRPLF, which are raised through individual donations, grants and attendance at the annual White Glove event.

“This grant provided by the Wege Foundation is critical for these programs to continue to grow,” said Dan Poortenga, GRPLF board chair. “Their support of the GRPL will expose a great number of people to what the GRPL has to offer them and will help us become more reflective of the community in which we live.”
