Chemicals supplier buys $4M building for expansion
A local chemicals company has purchased property adjacent to its nearby facility for an expansion.
Grand Rapids-based Haviland Enterprises said yesterday it acquired an additional 107,818 square feet of manufacturing and office space at 2180 Avastar Parkway NW in Walker from Buchanan Investments for $4.05 million.
The property is adjacent to Haviland’s existing 160,000-square-foot facility in Avastar Park.
Mike Karasiewicz, president and CEO of Haviland Enterprises, said the property purchase will allow Haviland to upgrade the company’s infrastructure and expand its production capacity once the current tenant, Gill, completes its lease in 2021.
“First and foremost is continuing to ensure and improve workplace safety,” Karasiewicz said. “The additional space will provide increased manufacturing capacity, as well as the opportunity to replace some of our aging equipment. Another big plus is the efficiency and synergy inherent in bringing together business teams and operations under one roof.”
The company has had a presence in Avastar Park for almost 20 years.
Karasiewicz said the future is bright for Haviland.
“With our businesses diversified across manufacturing, pool and spa and contract manufacturing, we see an abundance of growth opportunities,” Karasiewicz said. “The benefits of this new, expanded space will allow us to capitalize on them.”
Founded in 1934 by J.B. Haviland, Haviland Enterprises is an employee-owned company that formulates, blends, packages and distributes chemicals for commercial markets.
