Public agency accepting bids for riverfront property
A public agency is selling a 14.2-acre piece of land along the Grand River north of downtown.
The Kent County Road Commission is accepting bids for the property that houses its offices, at 1500 Scribner Ave. NW in Grand Rapids.
The land includes four parcels: 1500 Scribner Ave. NW; 1600 Turner Ave. NW; 1632 Turner Ave. NW; and 1660 Turner Ave. NW.
There are a variety of buildings, totaling 134,840 square feet, situated on the property.
The main building houses administrative offices, a parking garage, a wash bay, mechanic bays and a stockroom.
The buildings were constructed in 1924, with expansions and renovations in the mid-1950s and 1980s.
The property is serviced by various utilities: municipal water; sanitary and storm sewer; electric; natural gas; internet; and telephone.
The commission said it is in preliminary discussions with several potential buyers: the city of Grand Rapids, Orion Construction, Pioneer Construction, Rockford Construction, Rose Medical and Wolverine Building Group.
The commission said it wants to open the sale to other potential buyers.
Bidders are required to attend a scheduled site visit, taking place throughout January.
The deadline to submit a proposal is 10:30 a.m. on Feb. 28.
The commission plans to select a buyer in late March.
The commission said it expects to relocate its operation to Walker View Industrial Park by 2021.
It purchased a 29-acre parcel at the park in 2016 to have room for expanded operations.
