Universal Forest appoints insurance exec to board
Universal Forest Products has appointed the president and CEO of a local health insurer to its board of directors.
Grand Rapids-based Universal Forest Products said today it appointed Joan Budden, the leader of Grand Rapids-based Priority Health, to its board, effective Jan. 1.
“Joan brings with her a wealth of executive leadership experience and marketing skills,” said William Currie, chair, Universal Forest Products. “In addition, her expertise in health care, a major budget item for our company, will be a benefit to our board and management team.
“We are pleased to have her join our board and look forward to the fresh perspective she will bring.”
Budden has 30 years of health care experience. She joined Priority Health in 2009 as chief marketing officer and was named to her current role in 2016.
Before joining Priority Health, she served in a number of leadership and executive management roles, including as a VP at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
She serves as board chair for the Grand Rapids Chamber and is a board member of Independent Bank Corporation and the Detroit Economic Club. She is also immediate past chair of the Michigan Women’s Foundation board.
She holds a B.S. in business administration from the University of Michigan and a master’s degree from Wayne State University.
