A nonprofit that serves people experiencing homelessness is hosting an annual luncheon soon.

Guiding Light will host its annual Ministry Update Winter Luncheon at noon on Jan. 22 at Calvin College’s Prince Conference Center in Grand Rapids, at 1800 E. Beltline Ave. SE.

The Grand Rapids-based nonprofit plans to share its 2018 successes and future challenges in providing recovery, re-engagement and job services to more than 1,000 men and women in West Michigan.

During the event, a Guiding Light client will share his experiences battling opioid and heroin addiction and another client will discuss his journey from prison to working full time.

Tickets are $25.

Guiding Light Executive Director Stuart Ray said $1 donated to Guiding Light saves the community $5 in social services.

Ray said people often have “no idea” that many Guiding Light clients arrive with severe addictions and, on average, nearly $13,000 in debt or that the lack of reliable transportation or safety equipment is a major hurdle keeping them unemployed.
