The publication of several long-time community newspapers is ending soon.

MLive Media Group's Advance Weeklies, a chain of seven suburban weekly newspapers covering much of West Michigan, and On the Town magazine, an entertainment-centered publication, will cease publication on Jan. 27 and with the February issue, respectively, according to an article by MLive.com yesterday.

The group of weeklies includes the Southwest Advance, Grand Valley Advance, Cadence Advance, Northeast Advance, Northwest Advance, Penasee Globe Advance and Southeast Advance, the article says.

They have covered local news and sports.

MLive.com reports the "cost of publishing the products exceeded the company’s ability to sustain production," according to Dan Gaydou, president, MLive Media Group.

“Regretfully, this will result in job loss, and impacted employees of the Advance Weeklies team along with a few members of the distribution force have been notified,” Gaydou told MLive.com.

The number of employees who will be laid off is not noted in the article.

In place of the Advance, suburban readers will receive MLive Media Group’s “Michigan’s Best” print product, the article says.
