An insurance firm is moving from a suburb to a new high-rise downtown.

Van Wyk Risk Solutions has entered into a contract to occupy 17,000 square feet of class-A office space at the Warner Building being constructed at 150 Ottawa Ave. NW in Grand Rapids. The new addition means the office portion of the building is now 100-percent leased.

Van Wyk Risk Solutions will move its headquarters from 2237 Wealthy St. SE in East Grand Rapids to the 10th floor of the Warner Building, following the completion of its current lease. The firm plans to move into the Warner Building in July.

“Our 37-year promise will continue at the Warner Building, which is centrally located for employees and easily accessible for clients,” said Max Van Wyk, CEO, Van Wyk Risk Solutions. “All of us at Van Wyk Risk Solutions are pleased to be relocating to such a beautiful building in the heart of Grand Rapids.”

Firms on the project

Ghafari/Concept Design is providing architectural services for the commercial suite.

Grand Rapids-based Orion Construction will serve as the construction manager on the tenant build out, which is expected to begin in February.

Colliers International West Michigan provided brokerage services for the transaction.

Warner Building

The 15-story Warner Building will house ground-floor retail and a Chemical Bank branch on the first floor. A seven-story parking deck occupies floors two through eight. The ninth floor is leased to Chemical Bank for its West Michigan headquarters, and the law firm Warner Norcross + Judd will occupy floors 11-15.

Construction on the $55-million Warner Building is expected to wrap up this spring.
