Four West Michigan organizations are producing a day-long event celebrating International Women’s Day.

Amway, Inforum, Meijer and Wolverine Worldwide will host Today Is the Day: Get Gutsy, Make Your Move on March 8 from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event will be held at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids, at 303 Monroe Ave. NW.

Tickets are available online. It has sold out in the past.

“Our team at Amway is thrilled to once again be celebrating International Women’s Day here in West Michigan with Inforum and other local partners,” said Claire Groen, chief HR officer at Amway, which is the founding organizer of the event.

“This year’s event will serve as a platform for productive discussions surrounding the importance of both diversity and inclusion and gender equity. Event attendees will be inspired by the content and will leave with the necessary tools and resources in order to make a difference not only in their own lives, but in the lives of others.”

Speakers

This year’s event will feature keynote speeches from national speakers and champions of women’s rights and equality, including Vernice “FlyGirl” Armour, the first African-American female combat pilot in the U.S.

Armour, who also is a former Marine Corps officer, will present “Get Gutsy, Make Your Move!,” which is designed to encourage attendees to take action in order to reach their goals. Armour holds two honorary doctorates and is the author of several books.

Michael Kaufman, a writer and advisor focused on engaging men to promote gender equality, will deliver a keynote called “The Gender Equality Advantage.”

Monica Cost, a professional author and motivational speaker, will present “Pardon My Presence: My Authentic Brand Showed Up.”

Also on the schedule

The event will include breakout sessions in which attendees will have the opportunity to engage with each another in small groups and apply what they have learned throughout the day.

Breakout session leaders are Shannon Cohen, Michelle Fanroy, Avis Jones-DeWeever and Dr. Carmen Landrau.
