A physician group in the region has named its new president.

Dr. Kristen Brown has been promoted to role for Mercy Health Physician Partners, Mercy Health said this week.

Since 2015, Brown has been VP of medical group and physician services for Mercy Health Muskegon.

Mercy Health said there was previously separate leadership for Muskegon and Grand Rapids, but the health system transitioned to one regional team in December 2018.

At that same time, Brown was appointed chief medical officer of the physician group after Dr. David Blair stepped down as president and CMO to return to full-time patient care.

Brown will continue to hold the responsibilities of chief medical officer. Mercy Health said a decision has not yet been made on whether there will be a separate CMO.

Brown's career with Mercy Health began in 2001 with her family medicine residency at Mercy Health Saint Mary's.

Previously, she was a family medicine doctor at the physician group’s Westshore Family Medicine in Muskegon for 13 years, followed by roles as associate medical director of quality for Affinia Health Network and associate medical director of national accounts for Blue Cross Blue Shield.

"Dr. Brown's strategic vision is the perfect fit for leading Mercy Health Physician Partners," said Mary Boyd, chief integration officer, Mercy Health and Saint Joseph Mercy Health System. "Her focus on patient experience and quality health care are assets to this organization, and we are thrilled to have her serve in this role."

She serves of the boards for Muskegon Community Health Project and Affinia Health Network.

Her professional affiliations include the Muskegon County Medical Society, Michigan State Medical Society, American Association for Physician Leadership, American Medical Association and Alpha Omega Alpha National Honor Society.

She holds a medical degree from Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, a master of medical management from the Heinz College at Carnegie Mellon University and a B.S. from Michigan Technological University.
