Three West Michigan employers have been named to a list of the most respected companies in the world.

Fortune magazine published this week its 2019 ranking of the “World’s Most Admired Companies,” rating companies in 52 industries for their investment quality, people management and social responsibility.

Grand Rapids-based Steelcase, Kalamazoo-based Stryker and Benton Harbor-based Whirlpool Corporation made the list, earning unranked positions outside the top 50.

The top 10 ranked companies are Apple, Amazon, Berkshire Hathaway, Walt Disney, Starbucks, Microsoft, Alphabet, Netflix, JPMorgan Chase and FedEx.

The ranking is based on an independent survey of top leaders from 680 companies in 30 countries, measuring key indicators of company performance and reputation.

Each year, Fortune selects a group of companies based on revenue from the U.S. and around the world and enlists the global management consulting firm Korn Ferry to survey top executives, directors and industry financial analysts on their performance.

Resulting scores rate companies on nine measures of performance and reputation, including quality of management, innovation and quality of products and services, among other factors.
