Physician group signs deal with health system
An independent physician group in the region has signed a new contract to work for a health care system.
Portage Physicians and Kalamazoo-based Bronson Healthcare have signed a renewable five-year provider service agreement, effective July 1, 2020, according to the organizations.
Portage Physicians, which employs more than 50 physicians and advanced practice providers, currently serves patients at Ascension Borgess ProMed family practice and pediatric office locations in Portage, Galesburg, Mattawan, Richland and Three Rivers.
Bronson will be opening family medicine and pediatric offices to be staffed by these providers in locations that are “accessible to the community and complement the geographic locations where Bronson currently has primary care practices.”
Portage Physicians will relocate to the new facilities in July 2020. Bronson expects to announce the office locations in early 2020.
The group will perform services solely for Bronson and has no stand-alone offices.
“By aligning our group with the Bronson Healthcare system, we believe we will be able to achieve our clinical goals and serve patients even better in the future,” said Dr. Constance Mumford, president, Portage Physicians.
Bronson said it was approached by Portage Physicians regarding the agreement.
A Portage Physicians spokesperson could not be reached at press time for additional comment.
“They are dedicated to patient care, and there are many synergies to be gained by working together,” said Frank Sardone, president and CEO, Bronson Healthcare. “We look forward to partnering with them to coordinate care for primary care patients and to advance the health of our communities.”
Bronson Healthcare serves patients in southwest Michigan and northern Indiana.
The system includes four hospitals and more than 200 outpatient offices.
It has more than 9,000 employees.
