The Grand Rapids Chamber is hosting a two-part workshop for contractors on how to successfully place bids.

Organized by the West Michigan Minority Contractors Association, a program of the chamber, the free workshop is open to companies in all trades and professional services.

The workshop takes place in the chamber’s office, at 250 Monroe Ave. NW.

The first part is April 16 from 3-5 p.m., and the second part is April 30 from 3-5 p.m.

The first part will feature a presentation by DuWayne Johnson, senior project manager for Orion Construction, on what’s involved in becoming the prime subcontractor on a job site: pre-bid checklist, site visits, pre-bid meeting, requests for information and estimating.

The second part will feature a panel discussion with local construction companies and end-users that hire local contractors.
