College president stepping down
The president of a local college will soon "step away" from the top post.
Leslie Bellavance, president of the Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University, or KCAD, and a VP of Ferris, is stepping down on June 30, according to KCAD today.
Bellavance plans to go back to teaching as a KCAD faculty member, as well as to her art practice.
“I am enthusiastic to return to teaching and my work as a multimedia artist,” Bellavance said. “These pursuits have defined my professional and personal life.”
Bellavance took the role in 2015. She is KCAD’s 13th president.
Ferris President David Eisler said he plans to work with Bellavance between now and June 30 to seek input from the KCAD community, before naming an interim president and beginning a national search for a new president.
During her tenure, Bellavance facilitated the first strategic plan between KCAD and the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts, or UICA.
In 2018, she brought the annual conference of the National Council of Arts Administrators to Grand Rapids.
She is a board member of Creative Many, Michigan’s statewide arts advocacy organization.
