PR industry hands out PRoof awards

The region’s public relations industry has recognized the best work over this past year.

Winners of the 34th-annual PRoof Awards were honored last night by the West Michigan Public Relations Society of America, or WMPRSA, at Clearwater Place downtown.

The awards competition celebrates practitioners who "successfully used skill, creativity and resourcefulness to address a communications challenge" in 2018.

It is open to public relations, communications and marketing professionals who work in West Michigan.

This year’s competitors were judged by a PRSA chapter in San Diego, which received a record 131 entries.

“This year’s record number of entries showed some serious talent from West Michigan public relations pros and highlighted excellent and creative work being done in our community," said Andrea Finnigan, president, WMPRSA.

For the first time, the PRoof committee established minimum of 80 in a 100-point scale in order to qualify for an award. Previously, gold and silver awards were given to the top two point earners in each category.

“The team really focused on improving the judging criteria for this year’s award ceremony,” said Sarah Pazdziora, communications and PR specialist at Trace3 and WMPRSA PRoof Awards chairperson.

“We felt that it was important to align our point system with the standards of other PRSA national award programs, so that award recipients could easily submit their winning campaign or tactic to any of PRSA’s most prestigious award shows.”
