General Motors has recognized several companies in the region for supplier excellence.

The Detroit-based automaker last week honored five West Michigan companies — up from three last year — among 133 of its best suppliers at its 27th-annual Supplier of the Year awards ceremony in Warren.

Automotive companies from 15 countries received the award for “going above and beyond GM’s requirements, providing customers with the most innovative technologies and delivering quality vehicles” in 2018.

“We hold our suppliers to a high bar,” said Steve Kiefer, SVP of global purchasing and supply chain, GM. “They went above and beyond to deliver the innovations and quality that will help us earn customers for life.”

The Supplier of the Year award winners were chosen by a global team of GM purchasing, engineering, quality, manufacturing and logistics executives.

Winners were selected based on performance criteria in several categories: product purchasing; global purchasing; manufacturing services; customer care; after sales; and logistics.
