A bank has committed to matching up to $20,000 in donations to John Ball Zoo.

Fifth Third Bank will match funds for the zoo’s Round Up for Conservation program, which encourages guests to round-up purchases to the next dollar amount when visiting the zoo.

“Conservation is really at the core of what accredited zoos do and what they’re about,” said Tom Welch, president, Fifth Third Bank.

“Especially when we hear about so many species on the brink of extinction, right now is truly a crucial time to be supporting John Ball Zoo’s conservation work.”

John Ball Zoo is one of five organizations in Michigan accredited by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

The zoo is working to save Michigan species and participates in more than 40 species survival breeding programs. Its Wildlife Conservation Fund also supports field projects internationally.

Round Up for Conservation is a primary source of funding for these efforts to save wildlife and wild places.
