Change Ups: Perrigo donation helps D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s relocate

The Perrigo Company Charitable Foundation donated $100,000 to D.A. Blodgett-St. John’s Together for Kids capital campaign to assist the consolidation of the organization’s three campuses into one main campus on Knapp Street. The new central campus location will enable D.A Blodgett-St. John’s to serve children and families in a more efficient client care setting. D.A Blodgett-St. John’s currently offers foster care and adoption services, counseling for abused children, as well as residential services that are currently managed across the three locations.

Rob Jackson, principal and creative director at Extra Credit Projects, received the 2019 L. Ray Vahue Marketing Award of Merit from the Out of Home Advertising Association of America.

Long Road Distillers was named Michigan Gin Distillery of the Year at the 10th annual New York International Spirits Competition. More than 600 spirits from 29 countries were submitted and judged by a panel of trade-only judges at the annual event.

Subway promoted Grand Rapids native Len Van Popering from VP of brand management and culinary innovation to chief brand and innovation officer.

GOVERNMENT

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer appointed WMU Cooley Law School Associate Dean Tracey Brame to the Michigan Indigent Defense Commission. Brame will represent the chief justice of the Michigan Supreme Court for a term expiring April 1, 2023.

Judy Kettring, community health worker from the Department of Public Health and Frank Archer, maintenance worker from the facilities maintenance department, were recognized as Ottawa County’s Outstanding Customer Service Award recipients for the first quarter of 2019.

Ottawa County’s 2018 population estimates for townships, cities and villages were recently released by the U.S. Census Bureau. Highlights: All of the townships, cities and villages in Ottawa County continued to grow in population between 2010 and 2018; since 2010, the local units that experienced the largest population growth rates were Allendale (28.9% increase), Jamestown (22.5%), Blendon (16.1%), and Grand Haven townships (15.6%); and Grand Haven Township experienced the largest population growth rate between 2017 and 2018 (3.9% increase).

Ottawa County clerk/register of deeds Justin F. Roebuck added Tuesday hours to better serve eastern Ottawa County at the Hudsonville Human Services facility, 3100 Port Sheldon Road. The clerk/register of deeds office is now open Tuesdays from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Previously, the office had only morning hours.

Country Inn & Suites by Radisson, Grand Rapids East was honored with a 2018 President’s Award from the Radisson Hotel Group. TRANSPORTATION

Cardinal Bus of Middlebury, Indiana, announced the addition of two 2019 VanHool CX45 motor coaches to its fleet: The VanHools, purchased from ABC Companies of Minnesota, are 56 passenger luxury vehicles that offer a safe and smooth ride and all of the latest amenities. The new vehicles will be based out of Cardinal’s Middlebury and Holland terminals.

The Rapid announced service is slated to start in August on the Laker Line, the second Bus Rapid Transit line for Michigan. The Laker Line will connect the GVSU Allendale campus to the Michigan Street Medical Mile with stops on Lake Michigan Drive. The Laker Line will serve the city of Walker, through West Fulton Street, and into downtown Grand Rapids.
