A fuel distributor is expanding its presence in the region with an acquisition.

Grand Rapids-based Crystal Flash, a distributor of gasoline, diesel fuel and home heating propane, recently acquired Kohley’s Superior Propane in Muskegon.

The transaction was finalized on June 7. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The purchase will give Crystal Flash more than 1,700 home heating customers. Two Kohley’s team members will also join Crystal Flash.

“Finding companies with a mission and values similar to ours is key when we look at an acquisition,” said Tom Olive, president, Crystal Flash. “Kohley’s fit this bill perfectly. Our shared heritage as proud independent propane retailers with a commitment to strong customer relations drove our decision.”

Since 2011, employee-owned Crystal Flash has acquired 11 other companies to expand across Michigan’s Lower Peninsula and into northern Indiana.

Crystal Flash, established in 1932, has more than 280 employees.

Its fuel powers homes, fleets, construction, farms and businesses.
