Metal parts supplier acquires manufacturer
A supplier of metal components to various industries has acquired a local machining and assembly company.
Spring Lake-based Concept Metals Group, or CMG, acquired Comstock Park-based Freedom Manufacturing, according to CMG today.
The move adds 46 employees and one 25,500-square-foot facility, at 5320 6 Mile Ct. NW, to CMG’s operations.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
“The acquisition will strengthen our core competencies and provide more diverse and complete solutions to our current client base, while giving us an entry into new markets,” said John Walton, CEO, Concept Metals Group.
The acquisition of Freedom gives CMG “advanced precision machining capabilities, in addition to enhancing its engineering services,” CMG said.
Rick Williams will lead day-to-day operations at Freedom as general manager.
Robert Baker, Freedom’s founder and president, will remain with the company as president to assist in the transition to a new leadership team.
“I had been looking for an opportunity to transition for several years but never found the right fit until John,” Baker said. “He has the same belief in his people that I do. We have the same core values. While it will be hard to step away, I feel confident in the future of Freedom Manufacturing with John and his team at the helm.”
“Working together, we will deliver a better value proposition for our customers by offering complementary products and services that allow us to be a single-source supplier,” Walton said.
