A doctor has opened a local practice affiliated with a national membership-based primary care network.

Dr. Kirk Agerson opened the 1,000-square-foot office in Grand Rapids, at 2849 Michigan St. NE, this spring.

MDVIP-affiliated physicians maintain smaller practices, allowing them to spend "more time with patients" and provide more "individualized" primary care compared to traditional practices, according to MDVIP.

For an annual membership fee, each patient receives a yearly health assessment, which includes advanced diagnostic tests and screenings to give "a more complete view" of the patient's overall health. Physicians provide coaching and tools using those results.

“As a physician delivering the full spectrum of family medicine, I believe that trust, communication and a collaborative partnership with each patient are paramount in providing the highest quality health care experience,” said Agerson, who has been practicing in Grand Rapids for more than 35 years.

“Cardiovascular and other chronic diseases are incredibly important, but in the traditional model of medicine, a doctor doesn’t have time to get to know patients on a personal level and really understand what is going on in their lives that could be impacting their health. Opening an MDVIP practice provides me and my patients that valuable time and also advanced tools and tests to help identify and even reduce their risk for disease.”

Agerson said updates were made to the office space to “convey a more intimate, personalized care approach.”

The space includes three exam rooms, a front office, a physician’s office, a procedure room and a “non-wait” waiting room. Agerson said patients never have to wait, and appointments start on time and run as long as necessary.

The project’s cost was not disclosed.

The practice employs three medical assistants.

MDVIP has a network of more than 950 primary care physicians serving more than 300,000 patients.

The other MDVIP location in West Michigan was opened last year by Dr. Phillip Gaca in Belmont, at 6265 W. River Dr. NE.
