A nonprofit LGBTQ community center has hired its first director.

Out On The Lakeshore, host of the Holland Pride Festival, has selected Jeffrey Sorensen for the role.

Sorensen is responsible for day-to-day operations of the community center, along with increasing the nonprofit’s visibility, enhancing fundraising and creating a more consistent and active presence in the larger community.

“We’re really glad to be at the point of bringing on a director,” said Rev. Jen Adams, OOTL board chair. “OOTL is ready for this and we’re very excited about welcoming Jeffrey into the role. We look forward to his leading OOTL into the next phase of development.”

Sorensen said he has experience in communications, community outreach, corporate social responsibility, event planning and media relations.

Since receiving a bachelor’s degree in advertising and public relations from Grand Valley State University, Sorensen has spent the past several years in community relations at Gun Lake Casino.

Sorensen volunteers as the director of public relations for the Grand Rapids Young Professionals.

He’s also been active on several boards, including the Wayland Area Chamber of Commerce and Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity’s Delt Pride LGBTQ+ affinity group.
