A health system based in West Michigan has hired a new chief operating officer.

Metro Health – University of Michigan Health has hired Lori Price for the role, starting Oct. 28.

Price currently is president of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital in Illinois, part of the Loyola University Hospital System and Trinity Health, where she also served as regional chief nursing officer and regional executive of support service and quality.

“Lori stood out among nearly 300 applicants from 40 states by her extensive accomplishments and passion for patients,” said Connie Bohatch, Metro Health board member. “She has consistently demonstrated a talent for execution and a strategic approach to bringing excellent care to patients.”

Price has worked as a nurse and in senior executive roles.

Price’s nursing career began at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Indiana, where she progressed into leadership roles as director of oncology, vice president and chief nursing officer.

She became the system’s COO before being named president of its Plymouth, Indiana, campus. She also assumed the executive leadership position for the organization’s physician network.

In 2013, Price was named president of Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, a 255-bed acute-care hospital in Melrose Park, Illinois, and she later added a role as chief nursing officer for the Trinity Health Illinois Region, encompassing four hospitals and more than 1,000 beds.

“Whether you’re a bedside nurse delivering direct patient care or an administrator working on systems and processes, your focus is on one thing: the patient,” Price said. “That spirit of everyone working together on behalf of the patient is what drew me to Metro Health.”

Price is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and has earned numerous awards and accolades, including being named an “Up and Comer” by Modern Healthcare magazine.

She has a nursing undergrad degree from the Memorial School of Nursing in South Bend and another undergrad degree in health from the College of Saint Francis.
