An electrical contractor has opened a new facility in the area.

Walker-based Feyen Zylstra moved its industrial technology services into 20,000 square feet of remodeled office and industrial lab space at 3085 Walkent Dr. NW in Walker, according to the firm this week.

The firm is based at 2396 Hillside in Walker.

Feyen Zylstra expanded its industrial technology services to help manufacturing clients compete in an environment where “automation, connectivity and data collection are becoming more important."

The firm’s new Industrial Tech Center houses an expanded team of controls and automation engineers, industrial networking engineers and software developers.

Feyen Zylstra and its development partner, Coach Road Capital, invested $5.3 million in the project.

The firm chose the Walkent Drive site over other locations, including sites at its Tennessee and South Carolina locations, due partly to support from The Right Place and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation or MEDC.

MEDC supported the project with the approval of a $570,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.

Feyen Zylstra, founded in 1980, employs nearly 700 people in six offices across Michigan, Tennessee and South Carolina.
